La Casona Tours
CANOE TOUR
(water trails of Tortuguero National Park)
The Tour starts at 5:30 in the morning from La Casona in a typical canoe in groups of no more than 8 people per canoe. You travel through an impressive labyrinth of waterways of the Park observing the flora and fauna of the region that is indisputably diverse.
During the course of the journey through these dense waterways, you can appreciate the concert of the tropical jungle as you listen to the songs and calls of approximately 350 species of bird, the monkeys and the array of other jungle inhabitants.

PARK TRAILS TOUR
This hike lasts about 2 hours during which you can observe a great variety of trees which are in danger of extinction as well as many types of insects that make their homes within the National Park. Besides the monkeys and birds that you will encounter, you might have the luck of seeing a tapir as well as many other animals!

TOUR UP THE TORTUGUERO HILL
You begin this tour in the small neighboring village of Tortuguero, approximately 10 minutes away by boat.
With an altitude of 119 meters, this hill is an inactive volcano that offers a beautiful view from the peak’s vantage point.
During the tour, besides the great biodiversity of the zone you can check out the showy, tiny little red frogs of the area.

TURTLE TOUR
(only in the spawning season)
This tour is going to the beach in Tortuguero to observe the spawning of the turtles. You have a duration of 2 hours, accompanied by a local guide who explains to your group the process or actions that are taking place in the world of the sea turtle during their spawning season. You will wait in a certain section of the beach while you wait for the official spotters to direct your group to a particular turtle on the beach and you can watch as she lays her eggs and returns to the sea.

MATING OF THE TURTLES
(only in the mating season)
You go out to sea by boat to observe the mating of the turtles just outside the breakers.
This journey can only be made if the weather permits.

TOUR OF TOWN
This tour is approximately 2 hours, where you will observe and learn about a variety of medicinal and ornamental plants while you get to know a little bit about the customs, infrastructure and history of the village.

CANOPY TOUR
Duration: 85 minutes, offering: 11 platforms, 4 hanging bridges, 7 zip line cables, 1 climbing wall and one Tarzan-style cable. This is the ideal tour to go on with the entire family as you swing from tree to tree, observing the beauty of the jungle.

BIRD TOUR
A journey of approximately 4 hours, part by canoe and part hiking, mixing the aquatic trails with the land trails.
In this tour you can appreciate the great diversity of birds found in this zone.
Among the species that you can find, there are some that are in danger of extinction such as the green parrots(Ara Ambigua), trogons, toucans, herrings, hawks, hummingbirds, among others.
