There are not a lot of options
for hotels in Cariari. But there are three options that are clean,
safe, and very reasonably priced:
Hotel Surá, Hotel Central and Hotel El Tropical

Hotel El Surá
This is a new hotel right downtown. They have air conditioning, really nice bathrooms, and cable TV. They can accomodate large groups and have family style rooms. For one person with A/C it is 7400 colones ($15 USD) or 6100 colones without A/C ($12 USD). For two people it is 12400 colones ($25 USD) with Air. Ask for prices, as they may be changing simply due ot the newness of the hotel.

Hotel Central
This is a nice and central backpackers hostel. Patricia is
the lively manager, and she is very helpful with information and tickets to
get travelers on their way to Tortuguero. You can stay the night for 5000
colones ($10 USD) per person. The rooms are all shared bathrooms,
and there is hot water. Each room has a fan for cooling off. They
also offer parking with 24 hour guard. It is located almost right across the street from the
Old Bus Station where you can catch a bus the next morning to Tortuguero.Call to make reservations during the busy season (April

Hotel El Tropical
This is clean and tranquil hotel about 200 meters north of town.
Mayra is the very friendly and helpful manager. They offer private
rooms for 7000 colones ($14 USD) per room (each room can sleep numerous
people) without air conditioning, and 10,000 colones ($20 USD) per room
with air conditioning (super nice in heat stricken Cariari!) There is also
a safe place to park with 24 guard service. There is also a charming
restaurant with great typical Costa Rican food, and a mini-mart on site. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Old Bus Station
where you can catch a bus the next morning to Tortuguero.Call to make reservations during the busy season (April
